This is the place that tops my chart for favourite places to run in Singapore, and it’s not close. It’s rare to find a route where you can run, then shop, eat, sightsee, and watch fireworks without moving to a different part of the city.
What makes it work as a running route is the contrast — new towers like Marina Bay Financial Centre and OUE Bayfront sit a few hundred metres from The Fullerton and Victoria Concert Hall, both carefully kept. It’s also genuinely a tourist route: The Esplanade, the Singapore Flyer, Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, the Merlion — you pass all of it.
This bay hosted Singapore’s first Formula 1 night race, the first F1 street circuit in Asia, and most nights end with a fireworks show over the water somewhere.
The Marina Barrage keeps the reservoir fresh and holds back the sea, and its rooftop doubles as a park — worth the detour even outside a run. Kayaking, sailing, and dragon boating all happen on the water here, and both the Singapore Marathon and Sundown Marathon route through it.
The run itself: flat, with a few climbs over bridges and the barrage. Pavement and tarmac throughout, and you can make it as short as under 5km or stretch past 20km depending on how many loops you do.
Getting there: Bayfront and Raffles Place MRT stations both sit right on the route, and there’s parking at the Marina Barrage, Gardens by the Bay, and Marina Bay Sands car parks. Food and toilets are never far — this is one of the most amenity-dense routes on the island.
