Run at Marina Bay (Singapore, SG, SIN)

Here is the place that tops the chart on my favorite places to run! Marina Bay it is.

You would find many things you can do here, other than a nice city run route – for a scenic day or night run. Ranging from shopping, entertainment, eating, sight seeing, relaxing, to some water sports activities. You name it, you have it.

It is located at the Singapore’s central business district where you will find many modern tall buildings and structures erected to form the core of the business district. To name a few, you will see recent buildings such as the Marina Bay Financial Center collection of buildings, OUE Bayfront, NTUC Centre, as well as some of the buildings that stood there long before the newer ones appeared – HSBC Building, UOB building, Bank of China, Maybank Tower and more. Running among and seeing these marvelous mega structures from afar, will certainly make you feel small.

Ironically, being modern, it is also a place you can see historical buildings preserved for heritage reasons and for the arts. Colonial buildings are well maintained, such as the Fullerton, Fullerton Waterboat House, Victoria Concert Hall, and the National Gallery etc… Run and soak in the historic atmosphere amidst the modern buildings – mixed feelings of old and new, but sure must be good.

It is also a major tourist attraction of Singapore. You will be welcomed by tourists or entertainment spots like The Esplanade, The Singapore Flyer, Gardens By The Bay, Marina Bay Sands, The Merlion Park, and the list goes on. Not to mention it is also the home to the world’s inaugural F1 night race as well as the first F1 street circuit in Asia. Run and greet yourself to the many people of different nationalities you will meet along the way.

Hotels (especially very tall ones), and entertainment spots (high up in the tall buildings) are also all around the bay to take advantage of the beautiful locality that frequently boasts wonderful event fireworks. Run and catch some fireworks if you could!

To add to the list of wonderful things, the bay area water body itself is also one of the largest freshwater reservoir in Singapore, held in place from the sea, by the Marina Barrage. It doubles up as a place for water sports activities like kayaking, sailing, dragon boating etc. The barrage rooftop is also a great place for some family fun, as well as kite flying. The barrage is also a key flood control system protecting the low lying areas of the city centre from flooding. Run along the water body and alongside the boats if you will.

Of course, it is also a frequent place for major run events such as the Singapore Marathon as well as the Sundown Marathon – and guess what? Many more… Take part and run in some of them will you? Feel free!

Have a good city run! I have never felt bored each time I run here. No matter how many times. Enjoy!
