Who needs an excuse to get together with friends? If you can’t find one, I’ll give you two: Mr Punch Public House has a genuinely Instagram-worthy wall, and a menu that reads like short stories.
It’s a pity we only ordered dessert — too full from dinner earlier — because the menu has far more to offer, and it’s clearly built for sharing. After a delightful browse through the dessert section, we landed on the “Oops I dropped my” Ice Cream, partly for the humour, partly because I’m genuinely a fan of earl grey ice cream.
It is just too clever. Remember the moment you finally got your hands on your favourite ice cream, only for it to hit the floor? Mr Punch rescues that exact scene and plates it up properly for you. Such a beautiful mess — need I explain more?
As the menu itself describes it: earl grey mousse ice cream, salted popcorn, white chocolate, dried prune, and chocolate powder standing in for “soil” — deliberately, delightfully. A very light dessert, easily shared between two people after a full dinner.
I’ll definitely be back to work through the rest of the menu.
